Congratulations to Chayce Osatchuk for Outstanding Contributions to Healthy Living!

A belated congratulations to Chayce Osatchuk who was one of ten Grade 12 students from across Manitoba who was recognized for outstanding contributions to healthy living in their communities on December 17, 2015.

Here is section from the news release:

“It is truly uplifting to see so many young Manitobans, the future leaders of our province, involved in promoting healthy living in their schools and communities,” said Premier Selinger.  “Their achievements are impressive and I hope they will inspire Manitobans of all ages to adopt more active, healthy lifestyles.”
The province received 40 applications from exceptional young Manitobans.  This year’s recipients represent the best from rural, northern and urban communities and were selected for being positive role models in promoting healthy lifestyles in one or more of the following areas:
• active living,
• healthy eating,
• healthy sexuality,
• mental health promotion,
• safety and injury prevention,
• substance use and addictions, and
• tobacco reduction.

“It is important to honour and acknowledge these youth, who are establishing a path to healthy living for all Manitobans to follow,” said Healthy Living and Seniors Minister Deanne Crothers.  “I would like to thank the recipients for their dedication and also their teachers and families for supporting them in their efforts.”
Each recipient was presented with a congratulatory letter from the premier, a medal and a $500 bursary.
More information on the Premier’s Healthy Living Award for Youth can be found at www.gov.mb.ca/healthyschools/phlay.html.
Again, Congratulations Chayce!

Twas the Week Before Christmas

Here are some of the events that are happening from Monday, December 14-18!  Thank you to our Student Council for all their hard work!

Monday, December 14th

Gingerbread Creations – Block 1 - All teachers will be given a basic package with graham crackers, a container of icing and some candies.  The only rule is you must use the items that are given and incorporate it into your design.  At the end of block 1 we ask that your Christmas creation make its way to the front hall with a sign indicating the classroom it is coming from.  All students will be invited to vote for their favourite creation and a winner will be announced at the end of the day.  The class with the most votes will win a class pizza party!

Tuesday, December 15th

Show your Christmas Spirit Day – Wear something to show your spirit, a Santa Hat, your favourite ugly Christmas sweater, and so on.  Student council members will be walking the halls looking for spirit and handing out goodies.

Wednesday, December 16th

Hang your stocking with care – Students are invited to bring in a stocking or make your own stocking and hang it in your block 1 class, the Christmas elves will fill them with something….
Pics with Santa – Santa will be making an appearance in the cafeteria during noon hour, be sure to come in and get your picture taken with all your friends!

Thursday, December 17th

Ho Ho Ho Contest – Listen each block for a different staff member who will be sending out their Ho Ho Ho over the intercom, students can submit their guesses at the end of the day
.
Hot Chocolate and Cookies – Hot chocolate and cookies will be available for all students over the noon hour, compliments of your student council!! Enjoy!

Friday, December 18th

Christmas Brunch – All staff and students are invited to a free brunch in the cafeteria!

Christmas Concert – We really need everyone’s help and participation on this one!!  The students would like the concert this year to be fun and entertaining and they would like to challenge teachers, classes and/or school teams to prepare something entertaining for everyone (student council is planning to participate).  There are some great ideas for fun acts on youtube, we just ask that all acts are clean and respectful of the audience.

Have a great week!

Christmas Cheer Board

Student Council is supporting many different activities as we approach the Christmas season.  We would encourage all staff and students to bring items for the Christmas Cheer Board.  Please help as much as you can as the Cheer Board could really use our help in order to provide hampers to families who need them this Christmas season.

Thank you to all who have already brought in items!
