Varsity Girls Basketball Results

The Varsity Girls Basketball team participated in the Crocus Plains Early Bird Basketball Tournament this past weekend.

The girls were really on their game, placing first in their Pool with wins against Neepawa (79-41) and Elton (72-55).  To advance, the girls had to face the AAAA team from Vincent Massey where they won 77-63.  Now they faced the home team, Crocus Plains, also a AAAA team, for a battle for first place.  They fought hard, but came up short at 61-71.

It was a fantastic weekend of basketball!  The girls were incredibly happy with their performance throughout the weekend!

Congratulations go out to Hannah Kitch and Sara Henkleman who were named Tournament All Stars.  Great job, ladies!

Christmas Feast 2016!

On Tuesday, December 6 the AAA/BSSAP Christmas Feast was held at our school.  It was awesome to see all the families enjoy a wonderful evening.  There were over 300 people in attendance!

The evening started with a welcome from Lorna Munro who shared about some of the leadership opportunities for our students.  She also introduced  Kailey Chief, a grade 11 student, who was our master of ceremonies for the evening.  This was Kailey's first time public speaking and did an excellent job!

Henry Barkowski opened the evening with a prayer.  Opening remarks and a welcome were shared by Tim Mendel (SVSD Superintendent), Kelli Riehl (SVSD Board of Trustess Chair) and myself.

Mr. Chapman and a hard working group of students provided an amazing meal.  The effort was appreciated by all who attended.  THANK YOU!

The evening was concluded by special guests, the D'Town Steppers, who performed several dance numbers.  Some audience members even took part in the performance.

A huge thank you to Lorna Munro and Sarah Campbell for organizing this event!

Christmas Cheer Board

Once again, we will be collecting items for the Christmas Cheer Board.  The deadline is this Friday, December 9.

History and Mission of the Christmas Cheer Board

The original idea of the Christmas Cheer Board was to provide Christmas Hampers and toys for the widows and orphans of the soldiers lost during World War One. The Cheer Board was started by Winnipeg churches in 1919.
The churches operated alone for many years and realized there were many other families in the community that also needed help at Christmas. As the project grew, the churches decided to world together and coordinate the Christmas giving. The 1940’s brought the people to realize that everyone should be brought into one big organization to continue helping out families in need. More than half of all food and toys are donated by people like us, to not only families receiving Employment Income, but also many of the working poor. The packing and delivering of all these items involve almost 5000 people.
The total items that our school collects will go towards local families here in Swan River. When all communities, companies and schools help out, everyone can have a merry Christmas!

What Can You Donate??
The Christmas Cheer Board accepts donations of non-perishable food, toys or money.  They are also looking for homemade knitted mitts, toques and scarves. Teen gifts such as Stampeder tickets, gift cards or gift certificates for the theatre.
