History and Mission of the
Christmas Cheer Board
The
original idea of the Christmas Cheer Board was to provide Christmas Hampers and
toys for the widows and orphans of the soldiers lost during World War One. The
Cheer Board was started by Winnipeg churches in 1919.
The
churches operated alone for many years and realized there were many other
families in the community that also needed help at Christmas. As the project
grew, the churches decided to world together and coordinate the Christmas
giving. The 1940’s brought the people to realize that everyone should be
brought into one big organization to continue helping out families in need.
More than half of all food and toys are donated by people like us, to not only
families receiving Employment Income, but also many of the working poor. The
packing and delivering of all these items involve almost 5000 people.
The
total items that our school collects will go towards local families here in
Swan River. When all communities, companies and schools help out, everyone can
have a merry Christmas!

Can You Donate??

Christmas Cheer Board accepts donations of non-perishable food, toys or
